Meeting to Discuss Claude Moore Farm, G.W. Parkway
On Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m., McLean Citizens Association will hold the first public meeting of the fiscal year at the McLean Community Center. Charles Cuvelier, the new U.S. Park Service Superintendent of George Washington Memorial Parkway, will be available to speak and answer questions.
The meeting, co-sponsored by MCA’s Transportation and Environment, Park, and Recreation (EP&R) committees, will discuss community issues such as the future of Claude Moore Park and multiple issues impacting G.W. Memorial Parkway. Ed Monroe, EP&R committee chair, is leading the effort and has invited Cuvelier to update the community and encourage local residents to share their concerns.
Last year, Claude Moore Colonial Farm’s management had been transferred from the Friends of the Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run, Inc. to the U.S. Park Service.
There has been no announcement yet on what’s next for Claude Moore Colonial Farm — a volunteer-run historical and educational site that has long been a community staple.
Discussion on the issues impacting G.W. Memorial Parkway will include its important role in the expansion of the Interstate 495 approach to the American Legion Bridge, repair of the sinkhole, and the Parkway's long-planned reconstruction.
MCA will continue to host other similar public forums to update residents on community issues and open space for discussion and questions.
