The McLean Branch of the American Association of University Women will be collecting used books, CD’s, tapes, videos and software on Saturday, June 9 at the Sun Trust Bank, 515 Maple Ave. E in Vienna. The collections will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. No records, textbooks or encyclopedias will be accepted. Children’s books are needed.

Annual used book sale is being held at the Freeman Store and Museum, Saturday, June 9, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, June 10, noon until 5 p.m. There will be hardbacks and paperbacks, children’s books, and more; including the first ever series of Vienna postcards. Legal Aspects of Separation and Divorce, a workshop on Saturday, June 9, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the McLean Government Center, 1437 Balls Hill Road, McLean. A practicing attorney explains the rights and responsibilities of parties involved in separation and divorce. The American Diabetes Association will be hosting its annual Tour de Cure on Sunday, June 10, at Reston Town Center. The fund-raiser brings together 800 cyclists and volunteers in the greater Washington D.C. area. Riders travel on the W&OD trail across Fairfax and Loudoun Counties on 100-, 63-, 32- or 12-mile routes to raise money for diabetes advocacy, medical research, and awareness. Successful Interviewing, a workshop on Monday, June 11, 7-9 p.m. at The Women’s Center, 127 Park Street, NE, Vienna. Hiring decisions are sometimes made within the first few minutes after meeting a candidate and are difficult to reverse. This session will address all the important elements of interviewing including: how to send the right signals, what to expect from the various interview approaches (particularly behavioral), and how to enhance the use of references, portfolios and information interviews. Fairfax County is accepting entries for the 2007 Exceptional Design Awards, which honor achievement in the total design of a building and its site. The deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13.

Any project completed in Fairfax County since Jan. 1, 2000, is eligible. The awards recognize achievement in the total design of building and site, as well as creating an awareness of outstanding planning and design projects among the design professions and throughout the general public. Awards may be considered for many categories, including residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, recreational, historical, adaptive reuse, mixed-use, energy efficiency and affordable housing. Judging will take place in the week following the entry date. Winners of awards will be notified by June 30.

See “Tarzan” on Broadway at the Saturday, June 16 matinee performance at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City. A charter bus will leave the Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry St. S.E., at 8 a.m. and return around midnight.
