Parents, Students Encouraged to Attend Sessions

Dominion High School plays host to Academy of Science information sessions Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 7, at 9 a.m. in the school’s auditorium.

Parents and students in grades eight, 10 and 11 interested in the research-based math and science curriculum are encouraged to attend one of the information sessions to ask questions about the program and its application process. The ninth-grade curriculum is a two-year program, so current ninth-grade students are not eligible to apply to the academy.

Academy of Science guidance director Jayne Fonash said the information sessions are good opportunities to learn about the whole program.

“We will give an overview of the entire program and more information on how to apply,” Fonash said.

All applicants must complete a writing sample Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m., or Saturday, Jan. 28, at 8 a.m., at Dominion High School’s cafeteria. Students must submit a complete application packet to their school’s guidance office by 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22. If students are not currently enrolled in Loudoun County Public Schools, they may drop their applications off at the Academy of Science office, 21326 Augusta Drive in Sterling.

Applications are available at the Academy of Science Web site, http://cmsweb1.loudoun.k12.va.us/aos/site/default.asp.
