Dancing the Day Away

Dancing the Day Away

Students from Herndon, South Lakes, Westfield and Fairfax High Schools danced the day away at the "A Day to Remember" prom.

In its fourth year, the day prom allows students with special needs to learn what is involved with preparing for a prom.

Falling in the same week as Herndon High School's prom, Kathy Khair, special education teacher HHS, said through the day prom preparations and celebrations, the hope is students will attend the night prom at their respective schools before graduation.

Planning for the day prom began last winter through the combined efforts of Khair, Chris Pascarella, Carolyn Corbin and Katie Serensits all of HHS, Susane Selph of South Lakes, Amy Sutphin of Westfield and Megen Seed of Fairfax.

To help students enjoy an authentic prom, local organizations helped out by donating everything from cakes and gift certificates to limousines, tuxedos, flowers and the location.

In addition other businesses donated money to help fund the event.

Khair said members from the Parent/Teacher Association also helped volunteer at the event.

Selected Student Government participants also attended the event and helped keep the party fun by dancing with students and making sure everyone was having a good time.
