New Interim Judge Appointed

Alexandria attorney Sharron A. FitzGerald will serve as an interim Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court judge. Chief Circuit Court Judge Donald M. Haddock announced FitzGerald’s appointment late last week.

FitzGerald will fill the vacancy created by Judge Stephen Rideout’s retirement. Her appointment will take effect on Aug. 1, and she will serve until a permanent replacement for Rideout is selected by the Virginia General Assembly next year. This year’s General Assembly adjourned without making an appointment, leaving that job to Haddock.

FitzGerald is a former law clerk to the Circuit Court and has actively practiced law in the domestic relations field in Northern Virginia for the past 20 years. She was recently appointed as substitute judge for the 18th Judicial District.

She graduated from George Washington University in 1972 and graduated from George Mason’s School of Law in 1983. Prior to attending law school, FitzGerald was the law librarian for the U. S. Supreme Court.

She has been an active member of the Alexandria Bar Association, serving both as the organization’s president and secretary.
