Two Arrested in Burglaries

Area between Falls and Seven Locks targeted, say police.

Montgomery County Police have arrested two men and charged them with several counts of burglary. Rory Wade Leftwich, 36 of Jessup, and Lawrence Dewayne Westbrook, 36 of no fixed address were both arrested on March 31.

At approximately 5:10 a.m., police responded to a call in 10700 block of Rock Run Drive in Potomac. When officers arrived, a homeowner reported that he had been burglarized. Police say the suspects had entered the home through an unlocked door, ransacked a car and took a cell phone and keys.

Canine units responded and tracked the men to a wooded area behind Rock Run Drive where they were arrested.

Through the investigation, police found items which they say link the suspects to another burglary that occurred the night before on Winterset Drive. At the time of arrest, one of the suspects was in possession of a credit card that was later learned to have been stolen during a burglary in Frederick County, say police.

During the investigation, police found other items which they say link the men to a string of burglaries in Potomac. All of the burglaries occurred during the late night to early morning hours, and included the entry of vehicles parked in the victims’ driveways or in their garages, say police.

All of the burglaries occurred within the geographic boundaries of Falls Road, Seven Locks Road, and MacArthur Boulevard. No further crimes matching this method of operation have occurred in this area since the arrest of these suspects, say police.

Police, who had obtained a search warrant, searched the vehicle of one of the men and they say they found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and items which had been stolen during the burglaries.

Leftwich has been charged with possession of a stolen credit card, possession of marijuana, possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (drug) paraphernalia, three counts of burglary, making a false statement to police, and two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary.

Westbrook was charged with three counts of burglary, and two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary.
