Dr. Carol W. Garvey of Potomac was one of three female physicians nominated by U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) for recognition as Local Legends by the American Medical Association .
After eight years as Montgomery County’s top health officer, Garvey retired in April 2003, after addressing issues ranging from infant health and mortality to infectious diseases to emergency preparedness in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks. She was selected as Physician of the Year by the Montgomery County Medical Society. Her career has also included work as a public health clinician, scientific researcher, physician and leader in numerous local and regional medical associations.
Mark Getchis and Katherine Winder, both of Potomac, completed a 14-day Baja Sea Kayaking course, and Sydney Fleischer of Bethesda completed a semester-long expedition-style course in Baja California, with the National Outdoor Leadership School this spring.
Redman Communications, an advertising-marketing-public relations agency founded by Potomac resident Brian Redman, has been hired by Bethesda law firm Paley Rothman to provide marketing communications services.
