Cinco de Mayo Celebrated

More than 300 people attended the Cinco de Mayo Eve on the Potomac, a UCM fund-raiser held at the home of Phyllis and Ken Patterson last weekend.

Although the weather didn’t cooperate, it didn’t seem to dampen anybody’s spirits. An expansive tent provided ample room to shelter guests from the rain while they enjoyed a full Mexican buffet from Soiree Catering, mariachi band, margaritas and a salsa bar.

A live auction, led by Donna Blake Bolton, garnered some extra funds as guests bid on several well packaged items. Things really livened up as members of the band, “Beats Workin’,” took over the stage, and treated guests to good old rock and roll tunes.

Event chair, Beth Vance, said that the event raised over $65,000 for UCM. Members of the executive committee included co-chair Deborah Matthews; food & beverage chair Diane Tollefson; decoration chair Faye Maslow; invitation designer Kelly St. Clair; invitation chairs Katie Cooney and Angela Dougherty; fund-raising chair Kathy Wood; auction chair Karen Burka; program chair Nancy Hawkins and supporting friend Nancy Urban.
